Using a VPN server & client

Virtual Private Networking (VPN) has several benefits over routing with a static IP address:

All communication is encrypted with SSL keys
All traffic is compressed to reduce bandwidth utilization
There are no routing problems, since it is a tunneled connection

Potential problems with VPN connections could be:

Installations on Windows 2003 Servers that have the "Routing and Remote Access" service running may have problems with the VPN client program

If your synch is on a laptop:

Please note that the VPN software will not always work properly without understanding a few things first. First, if you hibernate a laptop and restore it at another network location, the VPN software will require a restart. We recommend shutting down the synch program before hibernation. We also recommend shutting down windows on the laptop so when you power it up in your new location, all it's nwetworking compenents reinitialize in the new network/location.
