Using routing and a static, public IP address

If you decide not to use the VPN connection, then you can use your own Static IP Address, provided to you by your Internet Service provider. You will need to configure the following ports on your router so that the web server can communicate with the computer that the program is installed on:

  • 1099 TCP & UDP
  • 1476 TCP & UDP (Disable this after initial load, as it is no longer needed.)
  • 8080 TCP
  • 8888 TCP & UDP
  • 34159 TCP & UDP

Using this configuration requires that your IP address never change, not only from your ISP, but also your local network, because your router configuration will be forwarding ports to it. If anything changes with your IP addresses or router configuration, the synchronization program may not work.

Using VPN is recommended, because it tunnels through your routers and establishes a direct virtual connection with the server. No matter what happens to your IP addresses, as long as you can get online you can probably use VPN.
