Quantity Discount Pricing and Mix n Match Features

Quantity discount pricing, or QDP, is the configuration of items such that buying more than a certain number results in a discount.
Typically you can encourage shoppers to buy more in exchange for a discount.
Multiple levels of quantity breakpoints are also typical with each higher qty breakpoint offering a greater savings. ex:

1 pen is $1.00
buy 5 pens or more are 10% off, aka $0.90ea
buy 10 pens or more and get 20% off, aka $0.80ea

That's QDP! You can create QDP settings for individual items via the item manager. We advise to create QDP Groups via the dashboard wizard for QDP. This option lets you assing many items to a QDP group and define the QDP breakpoints and discounts once for the entire group.
This will give you added management ease when you need to adjust the QDP breakpoints and discounts for many items.

One problem remains. What if you want to offer a discount for 5 or more t-shirts of the same style, but reguardless of say size or color?
What if you want to offer a discount for say 5 or more for any t-shirt no matter the style, size, color, etc?
Or even for totally different items that you want to promote as items that should be purchased together?

Mix n Match solves all these problems for you. All you have to do is create a QDP group and choose the option to enable it to be a Mix n Match QDP Group.
(Support and docs may abbreviate mix n match as MnM) ex:
1 pen is $1.00
1 pencil is $2.00

You make a QDP with Mix n Match and pens and pencils are items in that MnM QDP. You set breakpoint of 10% off for 5+ and 20% off for 10+

without MnM, a shopper would have to buy 5 pens and 5 pencils to get 10% off. However with MnM enabled, the cart considers and re-evaluates all items in the cart to see at that moment what the totals for MnM potential are and then gives the appropriate price.

ex cart:
3 pens for $0.90ea
2 pencils for $1.80ea

The shopper didn't get 5 pens nor 5 pencils, but because pens and pencils are in the MnM QDP group they only need a total of 5 of any of those items to get the qty 5 breakpoint's discount!

The possibilities are endless form back to school promos thru synergistic wholesale product combinations.

The point is that IA brings you advanced features like this so you can win more shopper's business and earn more money per shopper visit.

Final points:

You should put all concerned items into QDP groups, not just their parents, but all variations. If you don't want to discount certain variations you do not have to put them in QDP group.
Don't put the same items in multiple QDP groups.
Item specific QDP (via item mgr) will override QDP group settings and lead to behaviour that may be confusing so avoid that unless necessesary.
You should promote that you offer QDP and MnM to shoppers or how will they know?
consider adding promotional text n banners on home page and category pages and item pages and cart pages
new xml feeds will allow you or your designer to add XSL code blocks into your cart and detail page templates to indicate what other items belong to Mix n Match groups so they know!
