QuickBooks WebConnector errors and reinstallation steps

Some people, over time, will have errors with the QBWC. You may have errors reinstalling it. You may have errors unisntalling it. You may have errors related to startup and running. You may even have issues if a very new and buggy version is released and automatically isntalled by a QB Pro/Premier/Enterprise upgrade ( 2008 versions may have installed a pre-mature QBWC 2.0 / 2.XX version ). Please remember that Intuit developed and installs the QBWC. Noone else has the ability to re-program it or fix bugs but Intuit. We hope this guide helps you recover from issues related to it malfunctioning or not installing/uninstalling properly.

In most cases it is simplest to uninstall and reinstall a stable version. You can do it in 15 minutes. If we have to do it for you, this will add time to remotely connect, etc, and you will be charged for synch reinstallations. We have only seen two cases commonly requiring reinstallations: those that install 2008 qb pro/premier/ent (which installs a buggy qbwc 2.x version) and those that use windows system restore (which has some kind of negative effect on QBWC reading and setting registry keys and log files.)

Follow these simple steps to do it fully.

Go to add/remove programs. find QuickBooks Web Connector. click uninstall button.

Next, we use the registry editor to ensure the registry keys are removed. The uninstaller often leaves these keys which can cause problems with future reinstalls! You must check for and remove them manually if needed. Be CAREFUL when working with the windows key registry. You can corrupt your PC otherwise!

Click start, run, type ' regedit ' and click ok.

You may want to click File/export and backup your registry before making any changes, saving the file somewhere convient in case of an issue.

Browse to this node by expanding and clicking the plus symbols as needed:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Intuit

You may see QBWebConnector node under Intuit node. Click on the QBWebConnector node. right click it and choose delete, say OK to confirm it.

Close the registry editor. It saves changes as you make them so your changes are already saved!

You may want to browse to the program install folder to be sure no files were left there by the program's uninstaller. If there are any there, delete this folder:

C:\Program files \ common files \ intuit \ quickbooks \ webconnector

delete the folder webconnector and any of its contents. Now it is truly completely uninstalled.

To reinstall the web connector, go here:

We post the latest STABLE version of the QBWC. Inuit may have newer versions posted, but we will only setup and support versions we KNOW to be stable and have no known issues....

you will basically download a stable version from there, install it, use your .qwc file (a double click on it) to load connection settings into the QBWC, agreeing to the prompts, and then you will be good to go!
